Machine Washing
Pre-washing:
- Wash your fine linens separately from other textile items and always separate light and dark colours before laundering.
- Turn your linens inside out for better preservation of any embroideries, laces, or decorations.
- Ensure all buttons are unbuttoned.
- Place your fine linens in a large laundry mesh bag to avoid tearing.
- Ensure you do not overfill your washing machine; linens need space to move freely in the water for thorough cleaning.
Washing:
- Use a mild liquid detergent (e.g., baby detergent) without added bleach or whiteners. Do not pour detergent directly onto linens; add it to your machine’s designated containers or, for top-loading washing machines, dilute your detergent with water.
- Entirely avoid using fabric softener as over time harsh chemicals can damage the natural fibres.
Setting:
- Machine wash on a gentle/delicate cycle in warm (30° or 40° Celsius) water with a cold-water rinse.
Drying
Ideally, line dry your linens outside in soft sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Indoor air-drying is also a suitable alternative.
If this is not possible, follow the guide below for machine-drying:
- Avoid overloading the machine in order to dry the linens evenly.
- Set to the lowest heat. High heat will weaken the fibres and increase shrinkage.
- Remove items from the dryer while slightly damp; and let air dry, or, iron while only slightly damp for maximum wrinkle removal.
Ironing
In order to achieve a smooth, luxurious finish to your fine linens, we recommend ironing your linens after washing.
- Iron linens while slightly damp for maximum wrinkle removal.
- Adjust the iron’s temperature setting according to the fabric type. If your linens are slightly damp, the use of the steam function is not recommended.
- Use a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric to prevent scorching.
- To treat stubborn wrinkles, spray with water from a spray bottle and iron.
- To preserve the three-dimensional effect of embroideries and monograms, iron on its reverse side, atop a white towel to give soft support to the embroidery design.
- Iron sateen linens on the reverse side to maintain the lustrous sateen sheen.
To effortlessly smooth out wrinkles, lightly mist your fine linens with a spray bottle once the bed has been made.
Special Instructions for the Belle Collection
Iron the Belle collection’s fine linens when they are nearly dry, retaining just a hint of dampness. Do not use the steam function on your iron for Belle linens. Avoid ironing Belle linens while they are wet, as this may cause the ribbon’s colors to bleed into the white fabric.
Additional
- We recommend using three sets of bed linens in rotation: one on the bed, one in the wash, one in the linen closet. This will allow each set a rest from use and from wash.
- If your water is hard, consider adding a water filter to your washing machine to prevent mineral build-up on the linens.
- Inspect and repair any small tears or loose threads before washing to prevent further damage.
- Remove jewellery and watches, or other accessories that may damage fibres while sleeping. The added abrasion can—over time—break down the fibres.
- Professional hand washing is recommended for linens of significant importance—heirlooms or those with heavy decoration or embroideries. Be sure to use a reputable launderer who knows how to launder delicate linens.
- We do not recommend using the dry cleaner for our products.
- Store linens in a cool, dry place. Avoid plastic containers as they can trap moisture; opt for natural fibre bags.
